-- 30 novembre 2010 exposé de Svetlana Slapšak (ISH - Ljubljana ) : Thinking Love at the Time of War: Olga Freidenberg, Anica Savic´ Rebac, and Edith Stein

Correspondences in reflecting Antiquity and folklore between Olga Freidenberg and Anica Savic´ Rebac, and three women reflecting on love at the time before and during WW II.

The writings of Olga Freidenberg were not known till the late 80' inn the USA and Western Europe. They were translated in Yugoslavia very soon after they were published in SSSR. From a posteriori, we can explore the parallels in introducing structural epistemic organization, new anthropologies emerging from thinking folklore in its continuities between Antiquity and later cultures, especially comparing Freidenberg and Savic´ Rebac.

The elements to compare:

-       new interpretation of Eros in Ancient cultures

-       stress on the Ancient comedy and its social-political functioning, carnival as a common denominator

-       folkloric continuities

Thinking of love at the time of war in three cases of women victims of war, across cultures and geographic boundaries. Instead of recurring to universalities, this specific cultural intervention calls for anthropological and historical explanation of gendered positioning.
